Meditations- Pr.6:20-35 “Caul vs.Heart”

“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.(4:23).” Heart is the highway you establish by faith so when we pray we are in the presence of God; and we are not merely asking in prayer to satisfy our lusts but according to His purpose. With all our heart and mind we seek Him. It is communion more in fellowship, rather.

It is the heavenly place to which Christian Living prepares you at a moment’s notice. What does that mean? The world and its blandishments are like a shroud which is not supported by truth. Satan the liar is the father of it, a Vanity Fair to make the fools a dupe. For whosoever keeps the heart and follows the way of life, troubles that come from adversary are like smoke. “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble./ Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea.(Ps.46:1-2). Keeping heart with all diligence is to be totally commited to follow the truth.

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.(Matt.6:21)” ‘Where your treasure is’ for a man can only be either or,- for heart is the seat where truth is enshrined. Out of which are issues of life. The other place is caul which indicates truth held in unrighteousness. This is complete perversion of the accepted norms laid down by the Law.

The caul sets those who follow lusts of the eye apart from those who would live godly lives.”Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter(Is.5:20-NIV). These are the characteristics of one whose reins are held by Satan. They are used to the bread of wickedness and drank the wine of violence. We already came across this verse,”Your eyes will see strange sights, and your mind will imagine confusing things./You will be like one sleeping on the high seas, lying on top of the rigging./”They hit me,” you will say, “but I’m not hurt! They beat me, but I don’t feel it! When will I wake up so I can find another drink?(23:33-35-NIV)” Secondly heresies that mark those who hold truth in unrighteousness to follow after filthy lucre. They are hungering after other man’s riches. They are compared in the text as one who follows evil woman,- the neighbor’s wife. St Paul writes in his pastoral letter thus:”But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition./ For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows(1 Ti.6:9-10).Such foolishness as to take fire in his bosom is same as holding truth in unrighteousness.

To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids.

26 For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adultress will hunt for the precious life.

27 Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

28 Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 So he that goeth in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent.

30 Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.

33 A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away.

34 For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts.
