Meditations-Pr.6:20-23 “The way of life”

For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:(v.23)”

Here we have a verse to give us an idea of how exceeding broad the way of life it is. What is life? St James compares it to vapor. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away(Jas.4:14).” This being the case life of man is hardly fit to measure it. St John points the life of Jesus and says,’ In him was life; and the life was the light of men.” So the only measure is Jesus Christ who is the true Light,’which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.(John1:9). Jesus Christ the same (He.13:8).

The Law which the everlasting covenant covers ages, people that there is no telling by the conventional way of counting. It applies to us with the immediacy of the ‘now’. Now is the day of our salvation.’ “He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end(Ec.3:11)”.Truth is set in our inward parts which is where our path begins. Christ dwells in our hearts by faith. When Jesus said,’I am the way’ we just have the point where our journey should begin.

“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:/ Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God(John 1:12-13).

God gave us the power to which when we obey we have the Word, the wisdom as part of the covenant. “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?(Amos.3:3-NIV) It is thus we walk even as our Savior walked and set an example for us. This covenant before the worlds began has the emblem of the slain Lamb and when the Word became flesh and lived in the Land of Palestine he had a form that St Jon the Baptist would recognize as the Lamb of God.

Truth of the Word is itself and the sound. When God has eternity in our hearts, it does not sleep as we do. “bind them continually upon thine heart’ serves as a warning as we let watchdogs out to guard our premises so we keep out intruders. The Spirit gives us an emblem that goes into the heart of the Father Son relationship. How did John the Baptist recognize Jesus as embodiment of it?

“Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;/ And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!/ And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus(John1:35-37)”. Truth in his inward parts primed him beforehand because the Holy Spirit had a definite purpose in bring them together. Similarly the Spirit was behind the conversion of the Ethiopian Eunuch at the hands of Evangelist Philip. “As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit–just as it has taught you, remain in him(1 John 2:27-NIV)”.

For meditation:” I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad(Ps.119:96).

The text:

My son, keep thy father’s commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother:/ Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck./ When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee./ For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:
