Meditations-Pr.8:22-31 “In the beginning”

“Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;/Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men(vv.30-31)”. This is annotation of the logos principle set forth in the Gospel of St John.

We shall pars this line:’Then I was by him, as one brought up with him’- In John we read thus:”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” This is the Wisdom aspect which the Spirit has set down from the standpoint of God, the Son. Thus the Word with God, as one brought up with Power aspect. Logos aspect is the merging of Word into Man component in the oft-quoted Fellowship of God with Man. ‘Jesus christ the same yesterday, and today and forever(He.13:8).” Now let us consider this verse of Wisdom the feminine principle, ‘And my delights were with the sons of men.” Here we have clear exposition of predestination in working.

We shall compare this following passage with the narrative of the creation account from the stand point of God the Father.

‘And the earth was without form,(Ge.1:2) compare with vv.24-25 ‘When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water./ Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:”

Thus when the Spirit of God moved upon the waters Wisdom was with God and Wisdom set about giving the earth its form. Of which St John annotates,”All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made(John 1:3)”.

We see sequences in form giving. Depths and the fountains denote life of men. In hm(Jesus) was life; and the light was the life of men (1:4)”

It is to which what St James refers as ‘vapour’, mutability of life that he writes in his epistle is done away in Jesus Christ, ‘When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth(8:29)”. This passage is as mentioned earlier is from the standpoint of the Son. In the holy city of God no more sea shall be found. The symbolism of the sea is consistent for children of wrath and of darkness.”But the wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire and dirt(Is.57:20)”. Here we have the rationale of God separating the light from darkness. “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light./ And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness(Ge.1:3)”.

The Spirit keeps the Salvation Plan of God from first to last. So comparing spiritual with spiritual is the only way a diligent reader of the Bible can draw our sustenance for his spiritual growth. Those who insist on literalism are resisting the will of God.

The Lord possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth; when there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields, nor the highest part of the dust of the When he prepared the heavens, I was there: when he set a compass upon the face of the depth:

28 When he established the clouds above: when he strengthened the fountains of the deep:

29 When he gave to the sea his decree, that the waters should not pass his commandment: when he appointed the foundations of the earth:
