“And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

The Living Bible translates “and took one of his ribs and closed up the place from which he had removed it. ‘Closed up’ serves as a full stop in the sense not another rib shall be required. Similarly the Spirit gives the finality in actions taken on the Man with another example. “And laid it in his own new tomb, which he(Joseph of Arimathaea) had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.”(Matt.27:57-60). There is only one body. “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling.”(Ep.4:4). One body is associated with the Man. “According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:/ Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself.”(Ep.1:4-5)
Deep sleep is an euphemism for death of the Son, the slain Lamb before the worlds began. God is the God of the living so we shall go by the words of Jesus. Regarding Lazarus Jesus referred to his sleep. “and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep./ Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well./ Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep./ Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.”(John 11:11-14)
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
The rib signifies the doctrine of God, the seal of parentage so adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself is established. The eternal word also testifies that it is so. “For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.”(Ps.34:20; John 19:36)
