Before we go into the text proper we may consider it as a summary of what we have covered so far. We have a passage from the short epistle of Jude to explain what we are looking at. “And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.”(v.6) The angels, God made spirits and who estranged from their first state He has reserved in everlasting chains. Emblematic of this the red dragon in the vision is shown having ten horns. (12:3;13:1)
The beast who comes out of the sea also wears as many horns, the Holy Spirit wants us to understand from where he derives his authority. Satan has found a body so to speak. The devil sins from the beginning like Cain who was of the wicked one. “But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.”(1 John 2:11-NIV). It is thus in the divine Will no amendment or alteration is possible the advent of the Son on the world became the core value of the everlasting gospel. “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son.”(John 5:22). The Holy Spirit while organizing the Father Son relationship gives us a reason.”He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”(1 John 3:8;John 8:44) From Cain onwards we have a long line of men who are of the wicked one. Thus Satan has a base, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”(John 8:44). In our times we hear so many bizarre conspiracy theories from politicians, who despite of their unhinged mental stare are let to makes laws of the republic. If these laws are open to interpretation, and cannot decide if they lost the election of 2020 or won despite of two years passing, it must be said of the smoke and mirrors with which the devil may bamboozle people.A long line of men serving slavishly Satan’s agenda must be the greatest servitude and silly people looking at them with awe! So the angel must have a great chain in hand indeed.
Devil is bound for thousand years which is like a day. “For a thousand years in thy sight are but as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night.”(Ps.90:4) This day was usurped by Satan and by Law of Gradation God is going to consign the father of lies to the bottomless pit.v.3
And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.
2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,
3 And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.
