Job 12: 6-13 Parable of uncertain riches

Parable #3

vv.6-10

The tabernacles of robbers prosper, and they that provoke God are secure; into whose hand God bringeth abundantly.

Tabernacles of robbers prosper. But do not they also lose much more than they shall ever know? This is to their grievous hurt. They cannot think in their adult lives any other than riches and glory of it and how it has served Madoff and Jeffery Epstein is well known to repeat here. Similarly are we not seeing how the reputation of an incorruptible DA who took on the NY crime syndicate in the 80s coming unravelled? In whichever case reputation built up in seven decades cannot remain unscathed when the life of the man hits the dust. He robbed his own life and his tabernacle is not worth a pin. This is how carnal wisdom of man has come unstuck, every time. “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy(Jas.3:17). There is no wisdom in making rich. It is the rich fool in the Parable of Jesus who was only right half his life. In not being rich towards God his eternity would be simply worthless. Who but a fool would risk his soul for a body that shall fail us even when we have not yet fully dead. Barzillai well knew what was the honor of dining with the king would be like.

“I am this day fourscore years old: and can I discern between good and evil? can thy servant taste what I eat or what I drink? can I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? wherefore then should thy servant be yet a burden unto my lord the king?(2 Sa.19:31-39). Each soul has to give account to God whose breath made each of us a living soul. Godliness of man is not measured in corruptible wealth but finding its natural level in God. God has given everything needful for our life and godliness. Anything beyond is to our hurt.

And Job says,’But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee:Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. ‘ The same question Jesus would put to us,’Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? (Matt.6:26)’

Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the Lord hath wrought this?/ In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind.

11 Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat?

12 With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding.

13 With him is wisdom and strength, he hath counsel and understanding.
