That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
When we examine the righteousness of Law first principle is that Law is synonymous with the Lawgiver. God is Truth. Articles of Law severally as well as all together delineate the very nature of God and each one bears the truth. No one is righteous (Ro.3:10) but God alone is perfect. There can be only one conclusion: law of God is true and perfect.
God is eternal so when we consider covenant it is qualified as everlasting covenant since it had its origin in the eternal mind of God. “For I am the Lord, I change not;…(Mal.3:6). Truth does not change either. In executing justice according to divine Law we see a time lapse as in the case of the Book of Esther in which we find how Haman the Jew-baiter could conceal his villainy from being found out by the king. Meanwhile Mordecai’s service to help uncover plot against the king has gone unrewarded. While Haman is going from strength to strength he is preparing genocide against the Jews living in the realm. But it comes unstuck and Haman is strung up from the same gallows he had set up for Mordecai. God executes Truth in the precise moment not a second earlier or later. What does that mean? Our concept of time and justice is different from that of God. God sets in motion so villainy of man runs into a knot around the neck and he cannot escape as in the case of Haman. In representing the Law and Justice we shall see God the Father representing the Will and God the Son the executor of Justice. God does not judge anyone,’ but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:(John 5:22)’ Death and resurrection of the Son was based on the very nature, Holiness of God. In order to bring peace between God and man Jesus submitted himself as the Mediator.”Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant(He.13:20)”, So his blood holds a symbolic value in bridging the time lapse; it also satisfies the legal provision:’ without shedding of blood there is no redemption.’The Lamb slain from the foundation of the world (Re.13:8) is a symbol and it existed in the divine Will holding precedence over whatever law was instituted as temporal measure. The Law of Moses was one such, nevertheless endorsed as legally standing in agreement with the everlasting covenant. In order to see the difference let us consider the Temple of Solomon. God appeared to the king second time and blessed him thus: “I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually./ And if thou wilt walk before me, as David thy father walked, in integrity of heart, and in uprightness, to do according to all that I have commanded thee, and wilt keep my statutes and my judgments:/ Then I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever,(1 Ki.9:3-5):
God’s promise was conditional. The temple of Solomon was provisional against the kingdom of God that shall be established by Jesus Christ who after the manner of man came out of the loins of King David. “I will establish the throne of thy kingdom upon Israel for ever,” is a promise eternally standing to which temples of Solomon and of Herod are all merely names and provisional.
The nation of Israel having failed to recognize the Servant King whom God sent according to messianic prophecies was guilty of misreading the Law. They pursued the things of the flesh so much so the circumcision did not lead them to a life in the Spirit.
