Annotated Romans-Ro.6:14-19-“righteousness unto holiness”

Here the law to which St Paul refers is the Law of Moses. Circumcision is an outward expression of being obligated to observe its provisions and ordinances (Col.2:20). God commanded Abraham to observe but the actual laws pendent on the circumcision were given to Moses. Significance of the law originated far back in time. Does not this time lapse indicate how God works with man? God named Jacob as Israel at Peniel (Ge.32:18). He however confirmed it much later. “And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel(Ge.35:10)”. We see this in the case of the body prepared for Jesus Christ(Ps.40:6) gave rise to the concept of everlasting covenant. What was the significance of the body but in the everlasting covenant? As with circumcision we have a symbol. We shall consider what it is. The rationale for God dressing Adam and Eve with coats of skins was in the divine Will before the foundation of the world? The Lamb slain referenced in the Book of the Revelation(Re.13:8)  similarly tells us something of the Father Son relationship. When Jesus said, My Father worketh hitherto and I work (John 5:17)”. It is the constitution of the kingdom of God and it is the Word. In the beginning was the Word creating oneness, If the Trinity is justified on account of it so shall the fellowship of God and man through the Son Jesus Christ. Without getting the time element correct much of the Holy Scripture and how man tends to draw meaning shall only sow confusion. Consider the fragmentation of churches each having cobbled up doctrines where the divinity and humanity of Jesus Christ are without dispute but only in faith and practice we see a woeful credibility gap. One group of evangelicals are for taking political process on the assumption ‘Around 1 in 8 Protestant pastors (12%) believe Christians can speed up the second coming of Jesus by supporting geo-political changes mentioned in the Bible.’ (Funny that during the Cold War in the 50 it was Gog and Magog where Russia was assigned the role of villain. Who is running who? In whichever case the American politics has found its cat’s paw.)  While we have another group equally seized up with activating their faith so God shall be moved to honor their faith and send them prosperity. It is thus antichrist has bedeviled the modern Christian world. There is no reasonable faith but faith totally focused on the holiness of his Name.

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

Under grace we have been delivered from death which was held against us “Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross(Col.2:14)”; So we have been freed technically. Unless we ask to avail of this gift we are still under sin because the handwriting of law demands its dues. Wages of sin is death. There is a law of sin operating on all who are servants of sin. ‘for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness(v.19)’.

15 What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

18 Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
