The Spirit in assigning Power and Wisdom to God does it with familiar objects so we may see His hand guiding us. What is the secret place of thunder but the throne of God? We shall consider two verses. Firstly “And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God(Re.4:5)”. Eyes, thunders Horns are the Power and Wisdom set in symbols. Horns traditionally signify power. Thunder associated with God as He gave the Ten commandments is a key:”And all the people saw the thunderings, and the lightnings, and the noise of the trumpet, and the mountain smoking: and when the people saw it, they removed, and stood afar off./19 And they said unto Moses, Speak thou with us, and we will hear: but let not God speak with us, lest we die(Ex.20:18-19). Lightening and thunder differentiate between the Word illuminating and judgment aspect of it.
Coming back to the second verse quoted from the Book of the Revelation we see that these thunderings are quantified. “And when the seven thunders had uttered their voices, I was about to write: and I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Seal up those things which the seven thunders uttered, and write them not(Re.10:4).” These along with seven spirits signify God seated on his throne(Re.5:6)”. The seven thunders had already spoken and for this reason the voice from heaven forbade John to write them down. The Gospel of God has been preached on the earth. So secret place of thunder are with particular reference to meditations, where we commune with all our hearts to God.
How relevant are revelations from the gospel? There is no other gospel which may carry names of Enoch or some other. Such names may be Biblical names but we do not consider any gospel that has its centre of gravity other than the risen Christ. That is the reason St Paul warns, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed (Gal.1:8)”. The unapproachable light to which no one can approach nor can see is shown as the secret place.”He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty (Ps.91:1). Meditations allow children of God to be spiritually uplifted even in their difficulties because of their bodies. They are led by the words of encouragement, counsel or warnings whenever appropriate and new insights so they bounce back to continue in their service more fit than before. In the age of burnouts and depression children of God require such meditations more than ever. Instead of negative thoughts thought of the living God ever present in their difficult passages are not escapism but truth. God as the Good Shepherd leads us to green pastures and sets up a table in full view of our enemies. Enemies may be in form of financial disaster, anxiety and oppressors who would destroy our souls if given chance. No one can wrest us from the hand of our Savior Lord. Failure of Israel was to refuse correction and they instead wanted to be like other nations. “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee(v.16)”. Here is a colloquy where God provided manna in the wilderness to Israel while He promises us honey out of the rock. Samson’s riddle explain what is Lion of Judah to us. The risen Christ is also our Good Shepherd.
“For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock(Ps.27:5)”. Rock is a familiar symbol for Jesus Christ, who was a rock of offense, a stone for stumbling. Bur as a rock not cut with hands is how the Spirit informs the children of God the coming of the kingdom of God that shall displace all nations and be established forever. Each of us is locked in place even now to it and we live by faith abiding in our meditation with the Salvation Plan of God that we have been considering as Meditations of God. So we are among men but not of them. “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings(Ps.40:2)” Our own spiritual journey began when we called God in our need. This is what the Psalmist speaks of setting upon a rock. Having established our goings God feeds us from storehouses in time of want and river of God quenches our daily thirst and the finest wheat for our hunger. In short the Spirit has created a world within the world we move for our physical necessities. With the term meditation it is our communion with the Good Shepherd we depend on. “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come(He.13:14). In the previous we had discussed the case of Joseph who was an alien in Egypt among people who spoke in a strange tongue but God had already found him and preserved him.God predestined Jacob in His promise to Abraham as He had seen each one of us before the worlds began. His trouble was in the prison where he was thrown for no fault of his. If his brethren hated Joseph without cause Jesus was much more. “He came unto his own, and his own received him not (John 1:11-13)”. Joseph suffered unjustly so did Jesus for our sins. So the Spirit is making an irrefutable case for the position of Joseph as forerunner for Jesus. Similarly we are connected by our faith in the Son whom the Father sent”As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:” We are in short a nation holy people “And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth(Re.5:10)”. We belong to a nation ,which is not of the world because the kingdom of God is not yet established,- but in his Time. Meanwhile we are sojourners and pilgrims, being led by God and we look as the children of Israel to the Promised Land. “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God(John 1:13)”.
The Psalmist speaks,”Thou calledst in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. While we are being led there may be places that may prove to be Meribah. Here the children of Israel strove with God because there was no water to drink (Nu.20:13).
8 Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me;
9 There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.
10 I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.
11 But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.
12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.
13 Oh that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!
14 I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.
15 The haters of the Lord should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.
16 He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.
