The Book of Jeremiah-Je.4:1-6 “Repent Ye”

If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the Lord, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove./ And thou shalt swear, The Lord liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory(vv.1-2)”

What is the glory of a child of God? Is it not that his life is built on sure foundation of the risen Christ? When he appears in glory it shall be our glory and it is what the throne of God and of the Lamb in New Jerusalem signifies. So a better hope than the world can ever hope for and it is like an anchor is cast in the heaven for all those who are His. “Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that within the veil (He.6:19)”;

Anchor of the soul is cast by faith.

In the previous post we discussed the significance of soul as intimation of our glory as foreordained before the worlds began. When the Spirit of God moved upon the waters we have been seen and accepted in our Lord Savior (Ep.1:4). It also explains Power and Wisdom of God with regards to the Father Son relationship. There are many mansions which our Savior Lord as the heir possesses (Ro.8:17), and are in heaven (‘I go to prepare a place for you’-John 14:2.) So our home as intended is different from this home which has a form and we as sentient beings, are too absorbed in it so we are likely to lose our true state. Our home here and now is temporal. This ought to give us a definition of who is a fool. Anyone who loves this world more than his home unseen according to the word of God is a fool,

‘Whatever is seen is temporal and what unseen is eternal’ (2 Co.4:18) is a statement that must be understood and for a Christian is a lifebuoy whenever tossed around by cares of this world. God is a Spirit and the above truism can help us whenever the world proves to be too much. For instance think God is Love. God is unseen and yet love that we have felt is real and by its measure we exercise faith that He who gave His only begotten Son for our sakes does care for us.. The world and its demands shall one day cease but those who built their lives on the unshakeable foundation of God and his promises shall live forever. “Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is (Ep.5:17).”
Christians everywhere have been asked to walk circumspectly and not to get entangled unduly with the worldly. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Ro.12:2)” Renewing of the mind is not any change in attitude by exercise of your will but from a good understanding of the word of God. In the epistle of John we have a definition of those who are worldly. “ Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him./16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world./17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever(1 John 2:15-17).

In order  to renew our minds we have to be careful of the times. “A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished (Pro.22:3)”. When events are happening these must be taken as a warning. “I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem?/”I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish(Lk.13:3-5).

Jeremiah speaks of ‘Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart (v.4)’ and the nation of Israel relied on worship in its visible form than its significance. It was like they missed the woods for the leaves they spent counting.  “For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love (Gal.5:6)”.

For thus saith the Lord to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.
