The Book of Jonah-1:17- “Sovereignty of God”

“Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights(v.17)”.

Liberal Bible scholars are likely to reject the miraculous element of God preparing a great fish and they are wrong. Questions framed by a rational mind are not the concern of the Spirit. Rational  approach is not the problem but its answer is not what rational mind want to hear. If best laid plans of men and mice go awry why it went wrong is not what men can make sense. Reason and faith are altogether two antithetical worlds like macro cosmos and quantum world are. Light can be a wave as well as a particle. If one were to search mass of a fundamental particle one has to look for it in its particular field since it has no mass. Rather than go into the Higg’s Particle (and other abstruse peculiarities of quantum mechanics that have no bearing in our workaday world), faith is operative word.

The Bible is God document. Presence of God is knowledge by which every creature takes direction, So animals that are domesticated know advantage of coexisting with man. Consider the words of Prophet Isaiah who said, “The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master’s crib (Is.1:3)”.  Ants are noted for their diligence so much so the the word of God admonishes sluggard to learn from them. God has provided severally each creature with abilities so they are object lessons to one another. The nocturnal animals are provided for as creatures toiling all day. While animals rest and recuperate the other fend for their kind by making most of the night. God’s providence works for individual  creatures and serve one another. Isaiah faulting his own fellow men using an ox as example carries more force than mere words carry. God’s sovereignty and providence are meant for the greatest good for all creation. “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace(1 Co.14:33)” So when God blessed Adam and Eve it also meant a certain order.
