Man is endowed with free will. Otherwise God would not have taken Adam and put in charge of the Garden of Eden. He was His steward. As Sovereign Lord He also equipped him to do his tasks: He created Adam a living soul. So His breath was adequate for Adam to profit from. What is spiritual discernment but knowledge of the holy? Besides glory of the Lord which He shed abroad even before the sun, moon and the stars were created was intended to give the earth a shape. (The earth was without form and void, right?) These two characteristics,- glory of the Lord and his breath, made knowledge of the good and evil as though he learned from God the Father. Oh no, from listening to the serpent he outrightly made his choice. He listened to him rather. His free will was cast in favour of the serpent.
God is Omniscient but his Power and Wisdom would absolve him from knowing beforehand whatever sin that man might commit. That was the choice left to man considering that God did allow free will. Consequently no man shall impute unrighteousness to him. It is man’s choice all through. Adam as the son of God. On the other hand God the Son submitted himself to do His perfect will (and got the testimony from his Father,”This is my beloved Son.”) In the previous post we discussed new things when overtake man in the midst of his carefree ways and are meant to shock him and reconsider his ways. Consider v.7. New Things ‘are created now, and not from beginning’ is the saving clause- and disaster is his own making and cannot be laid on God. Adam sinned and it makes each one of us ‘a transgressor from the womb (v.8)’.
God holds enough material as witness whenever God executes Judgment. It is what we read in v.13. What does ‘my right hand hath spanned the heavens’ would mean? His breath or his Spirit garnishes the heavens with stars (Job26.13) . Science may call it an expanding universe but God controls the starry host. God separated the day from night according to the creation account. Think of the billions of stars dying and sending star material across,– starlight from so many billions of stars like waves break and yet we see the night sky as dark. The expanding universe makes the sky, despite of so many supernovae happening simultaneously, as though it has become a clean slate. It is a demonstration of divine principle of Power and Wisdom. The Creator God shall not be compromised by creature’s guilt. By the same token though our sins be as scarlet God shall make it as white as snow.”Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool (Is.1:18)”.
If so in heaven so it is on the earth: In the first Book of Samuel we have the Song of Hannah where we have an indication of our moral basis. These are set on foundations on which the earth is set up. It must be the basis for natural justice. If these foundations are shaken what will the righteous do? No God shall call them to witness, and it is what v.13b signifies, “when I call unto them, they stand up together”.
7 They are created now, and not from the beginning; even before the day when thou heardest them not; lest thou shouldest say, Behold, I knew them.
8 Yea, thou heardest not; yea, thou knewest not; yea, from that time that thine ear was not opened: for I knew that thou wouldest deal very treacherously, and wast called a transgressor from the womb.
9 For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off.
10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.
11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.
12 Hearken unto me, O Jacob and Israel, my called; I am he; I am the first, I also am the last.
13 Mine hand also hath laid the foundation of the earth, and my right hand hath spanned the heavens: when I call unto them, they stand up together.
14 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The Lord hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans.
15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous.
16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.
17 Thus saith the Lord, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the Lord thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.
18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea:
Here is another verse,”But let justice roll on like a river, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream(Am.5:24)”Is.66:12 also expresses similar idea.
19 Thy seed also had been as the sand, and the offspring of thy bowels like the gravel thereof; his name should not have been cut off nor destroyed from before me.
20 Go ye forth of Babylon, flee ye from the Chaldeans, with a voice of singing declare ye, tell this, utter it even to the end of the earth; say ye, The Lord hath redeemed his servant Jacob.
21 And they thirsted not when he led them through the deserts: he caused the waters to flow out of the rock for them: he clave the rock also, and the waters gushed out.
22 There is no peace, saith the Lord, unto the wicked.
