The Book of Isaiah: Is.45:1-4- “Surname”

Here we get a prophecy which is unusual. It is a Messianic prophecy alright but significance of the verse and symbols used bring the two narrative bodies namely the history of Israel and of the Gentiles as one.  Prophet Isaiah refers Cyrus as his Anointed One and it is a clue for us to keep in mind that he is in fact using the historical personage to foreshadow the advent of Jesus Christ.  Jesus the Servant King in turn is a stand in for the Messiah  or Christos. The manner the Spirit uses God’s Time connects the individuals for example Cyrus from the Gentile world with the Anointed One who in the Book the Revelation is shown as the ‘King of Kings, Lord of Lords (Re.19:16).’  Now interestingly enough the expression ‘two leaved gates’ pertains to  temporal success of The King of Persia, and by the same rationale in which the Spirit employs Time it leads us to eternity where ‘the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day (Re. 21:24).’ In the previous post we had discussed the redemption aspect fills both heaven and the earth as one.  Joy of salvation over one with a name as grand as King Cyrus is same as Zacchaeus, or Lazarus. This universality* of being part of the narrative according to the will of the Father and of the Son explains the surname. The heel catching Jacob was given another name Israel. Similarly when Simon Peter became an apostle he was given a new name. “…. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone (Jn.1:42)”. By nature his name derived from Simeon one of the sons of Jacob noted for cruelty and horrible in the manner he avenged the insult to his sister Dinah. But in Jesus Christ he got a new handle as surname and it signified a rock-like quality.  Prophet Isaiah gives the distinction of the two. “I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me(v.4)”.
What does this expression mean,’Though thou hast not known me’? Predestination of every child of God is established by testimony of two.  Name of the father written in the forehead is same as the name found in the book of the Lamb (Re.21:27).

*(Gal.3: 28-29)” There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus./ And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.
