“Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see(v.18)”.
Here the Prophet is addressing the seed of Jacob, whose blindness was spiritual. They had the law but they would not see the end of Law who came as Servant-King. They were spiritually deaf so they would not hear the Son of man whom God had sent.
In verse we read that Prophet Isaiah refers to the Servant of God, His messenger as Perfect. God sent his Son with a mandate. ‘Whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have eternal life’. So he is a messenger,- an apostle (He.3:1).
When he came to the world he took on the form of man , kenosis a term applied to this emptying process, so he ministered unto the sinful world. He was God the Son but he assumed the role of Son of man and it was here he revealed how deaf and blind he was- he knew no sin and he did no sin.
There is one passage where we are shown he was blind in physical sense.”And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?(Lk.22:64)”
Burden of Isaiah was to warn his nation and their stubborn nature had caused suffering to the Servant of God. Prophet Isaiah makes him as blind as well as deaf so he was totally dependent on the Love of his Father and he would ‘humble himself, and become obedient unto death (Phili.2:5-8).
‘In the verse 20 here below we read that the Son of man would see many things and would not be drawn in but they would not observe why. We shall consider one such instance: “And one of the company said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me” What was his answer? “But Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed Me judge or executor between you?(LK.12:13-14)” He was not among them to settle their rights or wrong in terms of worldly goods but to teach them righteousness of God which was indeed freely offered to them. Had they availed it there would be no need for courts or judges. He spoke as his Father wanted him to speak but they would not hear of it.
Their accumulated omissions and commissions of which Jesus condemned, ‘woe to ye’ did not make them like a shining beacon on a hill. They were only injuring themselves. Is it not same at the present and we see plenty of evidence of it. Opioid crisis was not something that happened by itself; squalor and wasting disease in so called civilized societies are manufactured by sinful men and they may speak of healthcare for all and intelligent medicare and all such name calling is no better than eyewash. “But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore(v.22). God is not mocked. There comes a day of reckoning for the nations Israel and of the world. It is when the Messiah shall suddenly appear and ushers the millennia of His reign. He shall command,”Restore!”
19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the Lord’s servant?
20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.
21 The Lord is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable.
22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.
23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come?
24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the Lord, he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.
25 Therefore he hath poured upon him the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.
