The Book of Isaiah-Is.13:12-22 -“Glory of the Lord”

“I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir./ Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the Lord of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger(vv.13-14)”.
‘Therefore’ the use of adverb refers to the verse preceding. The righteous are becoming fewer as evil takes for themselves the right of way. God is concerned when wickedness increases rampantly without any check.. Malfeasance at the top as we see about us becomes ‘the new normal’, and is duly copied at administrative levels so public servants are a law unto themselves. Even if they are disgraced and their services terminated they can easily turn it into very profitable money- spinner. Book rights and interviews in news media outlets earn them richly and consequently many are tempted to follow their example. So in such a wicked world evil is shown very attractive indeed. What of the ordinary people,- widows and the vulnerable, who are pushed unceremoniously aside while the movers and shakers of the day advance? Where do they find justice? God shall indeed is an avenging God and shall not let His name be made a mockery of.
Leaving aside the general let us focus on a child of God who dare not follow the general lawlessness that seems to thrive? To him only his faith can come to help. It is the lesson we can learn from the Parable of the Importunate Widow (Lk.18:1-8) “And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly. However, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth? (NIV)”
It is as good time as any to examine ourselves what we do with faith which is the glory of God, in essence. It is also creative faith. In the epistle to the Hebrews we read that basis for faith is on “the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear (He.11:3). Power of God commands and it is done, so things which you see are not how shall lead to. Faith indeed is wisdom of God. So long suffering aspect of God is not weakness as some on the earth do consider. When we bide our time for God’s work to be made perfect our faith is a witness: it testifies before God. Wisdom of God is complemented by Power. So faith to move a mountain is how God would see in our faith. Wisdom and Power work simultaneously so when God exercises His Power shall reveal something strange indeed in the eyes of the world. By which the lame shall take the prey and she that is barren has much more children, “For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband. that she can count(Gal.4:27). It is the Lord’s doing.
Glorious Faith is what we see in the creation account. At the end of each day God saw that it was good. It is Good despite of the fall of man and the manner the world has become synonymous with wickedness so much pervasive in our times. Let us listen to what St Paul says :For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places (Ep.6:12).So when Isaiah cries his burden is not merely Judah or Babylon but evil in its unrelieved dolor and there are spiritual wickedness as handlers who drives ever harder man to create misery all about., but take courage from what God says, “I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place,”
Even in literal sense mountain shall move out of its place will it not? Faith is not merely wishful thinking but waiting for God’s time. Otherwise what glory are we looking at, our own or of God?
Wisdom and Power of the Lord God see new heaven and new earth as creative Faith of one made good by the other. So when Jesus Christ in his risen glory says, “behold I make all things new” it is the same glorious faith and whatever was offensive, blasphemous and unrighteous has been driven away as autumn leaves before a gust of wind.
Glory of the earth correspondingly shall be reinstated. Sin always like misery find company. Apostasy and backsliding of Judah brought Syria and Assyrians after them. In the overthrow of Babylon we are to see the larger picture of earth desolate. Babylon serves as synedoche, -a figure of speech, for the world.

“And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah./ It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there./ But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there./ And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged (vv.19-22)”.

14 And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.

15 Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.

16 Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

17 Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.

18 Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eyes shall not spare children.
