The Book of Isaiah- Is.10:1-6-“Sovereign Lord God”

Overview

The Lord God is the creator God. His domain as indicative of divine nature can have only one constitution. Righteousness of God must therefore be the basic article giving muscle to His governance. “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein(Ps.24:1).”If there would be no judgment how shall the Lord Almighty reveal his Righteousness? Jesus Christ is the heir of all things (He.1:2) so judgment is assigned as His prerogative. “For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: (John 5:22)”. Here we have the first three verses Prophet Isaiah pronounces “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;”
If these decrees did not come from God these must be solely attributed to the nature of evil that works through man. Satan worked through the serpent to beguile Eve in the garden of Eden. By one man’s sin its collateral damage has entered into the world. So human institutions his art literature and culture bear its signature.
Authority of nations is vested in the head. If it is set upon a body of people their sins are compounded by the head that is as sinful as any other. The power makes it all the more worse. Thus what kind of laws do the ungodly nations devise? We have it in the verse 2. “To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!”
Do we not see the slum lords of our times cornering prime properties of ethnic minorities from their ancestral homes and drive them elsewhere? If it is thus in China it is also on our own shores. The excuse of the government is development but in effect it is giving evil power to move unhindered farther. “When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth (Pro.29:16)” This is not what God does or even condones but as the last part of the quote from the Book of Proverbs says,”But the righteous shall see their fall.” So there shall be a day of visitation and Judgment day. It is known as the Day of the Lord. It is what the next verse speaks about: “And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?”
Now we shall consider the nature of evil and the role of God. He does not tempt man with evil. Apostle James gives us a clear picture of it.”God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:(Jas.1:13-15).” When a man is drawn of his lust, he is easily open to commit himself, so he is enticed. So we find the cases of so called saints who could not resist an open door. Have we not seen in Waco, Texas or in French Guyana the false apostles hold their disciples to ransom with deadly consequences? Sexual predators and power mad fellows with a glib tongue create circumstances where their lust cannot leave but end in death and destruction. Merely because they thumped their bibles do not mean that God did appoint them. It speaks of sin as the general climate in which those who would not partake the wholesome milk of the gospel find in novelty something good. They are not built up, instead they are enticed and in the end they are damned souls who used the Scripture to no purpose.

Some decades ago the west saw Soviet Union as the bulwark of Communism and they generally viewed them as godless. Now we see Putin of Russia is cut of the same cloth as Trump; and both are for material prosperity as symptomatic of divine favor. What created this change in perception? Ideology is merely eyewash but sin is real and it is in this general climate all nations operate. When they strive for greatness or world domination one may cut out the ideological claptrap and understand their policies bode ill for those who fear God and would want to live sober lives. In China the Christians are persecuted by oppressive regime even as they are sidelined in the west by the overwhelming materialism. When a young executive at the start of career is judged by performance and he has to sell products that are blatantly spurious is he not at a disadvantage if his principles do not allow him to take on the position?

4 Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.

6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
