“For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace(v.6).
When we study the Word of God we are given the Salvation Plan of God as illustrative of His mind as well as of ways. He works with persons about which everything else shall revolve. Prophecies as well as visions are means to an end. Of this we have ample evidence in the books of the major and minor prophets. Like the musical form of motive Prophet Isaiah, having already introduced the significance of Immanuel, is now establishing the divine composition on firm basis. Jesus Christ is the Savior of the World, to which
“And the Gentiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising (Is.60:3;Is,2:2-5). We had already come across the Mountain of the Lord quoted from chapter Two of the book. In the Book of Daniel it is introduced as part of a Gentile King’s dream. Jesus Christ as the stone cut out of the mountain without hands(Dan.2:44) is part of the Mountain of the Lord. It is an everlasting kingdom. What is a prophecy but words of God as spoken by man? Isaiah predicts nothing of his own but what God charged him to speak. (Nu.12:6;Ex.4:16). The Spirit helps servants of God in a manner so that spirit of man shall understand. Visions and dreams are nothing apart but hedged within the minutiae of living. Thus while the prophet takes his fellow men to task for their backsliding the Spirit also inserts the coming of Immanuel. Think of it as motive in the majestic Music of Celestial spheres.
In repeating the adjectives associated with the Lord God ‘the mighty God, the everlasting Father’ what are we to make but the Father-Son relationship underlying the Jewish monotheistic God? (“Hear O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord(Deu.6:4), When God sent his Son he made manifest, “I and my Father are one(Jn.10:30).” This we speak as self-evident and also stand by it.
“Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this(v.7)”.
Only God can give peace and as the Lord Redeemer has assured “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives (Jn.14:27-NIV)”. The peace that the prophet speaks of is of his government and not what we mean of governments of men. What is the Millennial Reign but a foretaste of the real, where God and of the Lamb is the glory of the city of saints? John did not see any temple in the holy city of God. “For the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it (Re.21:22). At present we have government in the State of Israel where was once the throne of David and they having let it go is fighting tooth and nail for the stones, or whatever left of it. Their desolation arose for the simple reason that they did not take care of truth or be led by it. “So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels (Ps.81:12)”. God giving wisdom from above is different from God letting them to their own devices. What material blessings can match the peace of God that rules a child of God? “And he gave them their request; but sent leanness into their soul (Ps.106:15). Only when the nation of Israel repents the folly of having rejected Prince of peace and are reconciled to him they shall experience peace in their own hearts and within their borders. They were aliens for long, because of their stubbornness and even now it haunts them. Had they otherwise having tasted holocaust, would repress the Palestinians as harshly as they do now? Peace of God is a gift but peace that Israels hopes for is from leanness of their soul. Empathy reflects a well-fed soul where man does not do favor to Palestinian or Mexican but as owing unto God. God shall call to account all nations that defy His authority. God shall come soon and judge the godless governments,
