The Book of Isaiah- Is.8: 5-11 – “Shiloh”

The Lord spake also unto me again, saying, Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah’s son;(vv.5-6)
Here we have a reference to Shiloh as the place where tabernacle of God was brought by the children of Israel when they possessed Canaan.”As a result the land was subdued before them (Josh.18:1)” So the place in terms of their history has significance. It was also here that the ark fell into the hands of the Philistines, In the Psalms we also have a clue for it. “So that he forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh (Ps.78:60),” There is another significance. according to the prophecy of Jacob regarding the coming of a law giver (Ge.49:10b.) Evidently from ‘the scepter shall not depart from Judah” we can infer it is a Messianic prophecy. Shiloh means Rest giver. To all intent and purpose only Jesus Christ fits the context. His ancestor King David cannot be the rest giver since God forbade him explicitly. “But God said unto me, Thou shalt not build an house for my name, because thou hast been a man of war, and hast shed blood(1 Ch. 28:3). The modern church has been waging a war not for establishing righteousness of God but to show its prosperity is a blessing. So it has entangled with powers-that-be, least mindful of their immoral and ungodly stance to further their gains. Instead of letting our Lord Savior, the Good Shepherd to lead us by the still waters (Ps.23:2) are we rejoicing in Rezins of today? Then as now.
The Spirit has incorporated such details that may seen insignificant for our instruction in righteousness. The name Shiloh evokes the history of Israel but its reference to Jesus Christ the Prince of peace and our Lord Redeemer is a clear indication that narrative power as only God can give is not meant only for the nation of Israel but also for the church, bond and free the Jews and the gentiles alike.”Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come(1 Cor.10:11).

Now therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, even the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all his channels, and go over all his banks: And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel(vv.7-8).

9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.

Take counsel together, and it shall come to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

Here is a verse for those who think their own wisdom and sagacity can change future. Wisdom given from above is to use the gift of God, intellect, drive and empathy with God and not against His will. Politicians who conspire with enemy states or individuals to achieve their end but shall not God know it? You may be sure that God shall undo their mischief and their retribution shall come publicly. God is not mocked and the evangelicalism that rides their baggage train shall only bring shame to Christ Jesus whose name they use for their own ends. “The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD(Pro.16:33-NIV).
