“And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done (v.17).”
Compare this with a similar action where the Man With the Sharp Sickle thrust in the sickle on the earth and ‘the earth was reaped.” The angel pouring out his vial into the air brings out response as the Son of man’s action does. The earthquake hailstones are all consequences of the angel with vial as treading out the winepress and gathering the vine of the earth are signified by the sickle (Re.15:18-20).
“And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; (v.18a)”
This expression as explained before signifies the judgment as ordained from the throne of God. The cities of the nation fell. We read in the next verse, “and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.” .We shall examine this in the chapter18. Does not this line, “And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found” bring to mind the vision of the King in the Book of Daniel (Dan.2:44)? The stone that was cut out of the mountain without hands shall break in pieces and clear everything else when ‘God of heaven set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed.’
“And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great (v.21)
Having seen the King’s dream interpreted by Daniel did point to a rock that was foreordained we can see how the Spirit has tied up the narrative about God the Son. Here below we have a verse: “And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder (Matt.21:44)”. This telling passage came at the end of a Parable of the Wicked Tenants and the chief priests and the Pharisees for whose benefit Jesus had used understood that he was talking about them. Jesus Christ would have wished that they understood truth of his role in the Salvation Plan. He was a symbol and also the truth. Since it was foreordained accordingly in heaven his coming as Servant King as well as Messiah King in truth determined their destiny in eternity. In rejecting him in the first instance they laid on themselves a stumbling block; in rejecting him after the Millennial Reign those who resisted invited upon themselves the wrath of God. It is what the hailstone in the vision signified.
