Testimony of God: time

Here is a tweet I started the day with: Some days suck and some mornings positively revolt. But I must rise and shine, for the Lord has made this happen for a reason.

Time is allotted to man. Man born of woman has certain measure of time which is a testimony of God. When He created the earth it gave a shape to what was void and formless. It just goes to show that you are indeed a part and parcel of it.

God has no need of time or space. He is eternal and His Power and Wisdom ensure whatever time is determined in his Will is God’s Time. Prophecies mean these shall be accomplished in that time frame. Prophecies have always accuracy since these happen in His Time and not according to our calendar.  How often we have seen prophets of Doom fail in their attempts to catch headlines? How on earth can they inform us of the cut- off date? Jesus himself admitted it was for the Father. “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father ( Mt.13:32).”
Remember Harold Camping who had sometime ago predicted the end of the world and then revised it to no avail? Here is a quote from Moses: “The LORD your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your fellow Israelites. You must listen to him (Deut.18:15).” Israelites failed.

Is not time every day currency? We keep reminding of day’s schedule and we scrupulously follow it. How often have we relied on a sure thing and found we were mistaken. Expectations of man are based on unfounded optimism and desires. Those who played at stocks lost their shirt of their backs in 1929 and in our time 2008.  What does it teach us ? Their optimism was unfounded. So time howsoever well we are acquainted with it must fail us. As did the Israelites fail to follow the words of Moses. In their backsliding and in their demand for the king they proved they would force the Hand of God rather than wait for His time. Prophet Isaiah faulted them: “The ox knows its master, the donkey its owner’s manger, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand(1:3).”
Ye hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time? (Lk.12:56). They were misled by their own reckoning of the Messiah. They rejected Servant King whom God sent. What use was to have prophets and the Law if they did not trace the Will of God to know what was the end of the law? They looked for signs and missed the most obvious. “He (Jesus) came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him(Jn.1:11).” What a sad commentary ! Is it not similar that we in our time make our Savior Lord encouraging a get-rich philosophy, judging from the activism of Evangelicalism? They jump the political bandwagons and make excuses for promoting the indefensible? Prosperity theology would make Jesus in their own mold.

We read of the great fish that swallowed Jonah. It testified God and bore the testimony of God. For God’s Will would not be thwarted because the prophet detested the citizens of Nineveh and would not be bothered with either way as to their destruction. God instead had his plan that went beyond the prophet. In His Core Will he was set as a symbol for the Son.  It spoke for Time and not his own. He had similarly seen us before the foundation of the world and chosen us in the Son. Each of us is a symbol while we fulfill the Will of God on the earth. Coming back to Jonah the Holy Spirit uses him as a forerunner of Jesus (Mt.12:40) “For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth” Jonah had only knowledge of one aspect  of time that was incomplete. All such prophecies of God belong to the testimony of God. It was thus with Jonah as well as with us. We are not set in this world for ourselves but for others as well. As children of God our time must reconcile with God’s Time.

So testimony of God is about Time while our lives run on earth time. There is nothing accidental about children of God. God’s Time covers every child. This testimony of God is as perfect as Atonement of his Son. You separate these what use is the word of God? By doing so you make His word half right and half wrong. You have made his Power and Wisdom less than what his Word says.

Is death to be afraid of? “Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows Lk.12:27”.Indeed the death or the fall of a sparrow alike stand as a testimony before God. He is the creator. How much more the death of a child of God? We shall be a testimony before God in life as well in death.

  1. This is very thought provoking! I, too, have been thinking about God in regards to time. Today I was thinking about how He is both outside of time, inhabiting eternity, and inside time, because the Bible talks about Him waiting patiently (like in 1 Pet. 3:20.) Thank you for sharing your wisdom from Him, Benny!

Time element is crucial to understand the Scripture, Jennifer. A Day is God’s Time and predestination can only be properly understood from such a time determined by God. I have been writing about these in my blog and also have described the Bible in so many books.

The same to you. May God sustain you richly in your witnessing, The Lord is risen!
