Gen 1:5 Naming Day

Gen.1:5 ‘God called the light Day

Here day indicates a certain interval of time.

In the creation account the sun and and the moon seem to have been created later (1:16).Regarding the origin of the moon Science states that a giant impact provides just the right circumstances for a body with the moon’s peculiar chemical composition to arise. Science also would explain that in the absence of a moon the earth would have rotated faster. Consequently the hours that made the day must have been different.

Can Science and God exist together? Science works on certain assumptions and within a rigid set of parameters in which every step has to fit and in the end prove the assumption. Whereas the Bible account separates light from darkness and somewhere towards fourth day God sets two  lights. Apparently God’s ways are at odds with of Science. Science is not expected to inquire into such matters where the divine Will operates as though Space and Time of no consequence.

We read the earth was without form. Suppose a material universe was compressed to a point that consequently caused the Big Bang will not God as the creator know it? Will not that point of singularity in his Mind be in its entirety?

The verse states: ‘the earth was formless and empty.’ Consider being brought to a place where no feature can be named and not relieved by light, will it not be formless? If I have set a room in order and have each item in its place will I not know what is where even if the room is in the dark? The formlessness is cited here from the standpoint of man. It is typical of a rational being he requires every phenomenon is given its place logically. We read ‘whatever the man called each living creature that was its name.’2:19 Hence Holy Spirit uses name of a thing or being to impress upon us a certain spiritual truth. Name of a thing has great significance.Gen 32:28. Jacob and Israel reveal the state of an individual before and after he had struggled with God and men’ and has overcome.

God has no need for such devices since He is unchangeable. He reveals to Moses at the burning bush His name. ‘I am Who I am.’ (Ex.3:14)
